How to Quiz
The Colombo Pub Quiz is Sri Lanka's oldest pub quiz, and we've developed a system for play. We have used it for quite a while, and we feel it works.
Here it is.
- The Quiz is a table quiz, where each team sits at a table and fills out an answer sheet. This answer sheet is handed in at the end of each round and scored.
- There are six rounds of ten questions each. The usual rounds are News, Sports, Pot Luck (random general questions from any field), Movies & TV, and Music. There is also a themed round that is based on a common theme. Sometimes the entire Quiz has an overarching theme.
- Each answer is worth one point, though the Quizmaster may change scoring systems to keep things interesting. Any changes will be explained by the Quizmaster in advance, so there are no surprises.
- Any team may ask for a clue on any question. But any other team may veto the clue, ensuring you don't get it. Ask for too many clues, and the Quizmaster may ignore your request, call for too many vetoes and he definitely will.
- Each team gets one Joker per Quiz. Declaring this Joker doubles your points for that round. But the Joker must be declared before the round starts. So use your Joker wisely.
- There is no cheating allowed. The use of phones, tablets, and any other information access methods is strictly forbidden, and can lead to disqualification. If you see anyone cheating, please let us know at the time.
- The Quizmaster can be challenged on the answers, but his rulings are final.
- And the most important rule: Have fun.
